Branding an existing smart electrical product is the fastest way to launch your own line — typically 100–500 pieces MOQ and 15–25 days of production instead of the 12–18 months and five-figure tooling cost of full ODM development. But the difference between a smooth first order and a painful one is almost always in the details that were never written down. This is the checklist we walk through with every OEM partner before the deposit.
Brand and compliance
- 1. Trademark ownership: confirm you hold the registered mark in your sales markets; the factory prints, but you warrant.
- 2. Artwork files: logo in vector (AI/PDF), one-colour pad print or laser etch, with position and size marked on a photo of the housing.
- 3. Certification scope: CE/RoHS test reports can be issued under your brand, but only if the product is not modified; changing the housing colour or rating label voids the original report and needs re-documentation.
Product configuration
- 4. Rating label: voltage, current, frequency and IP rating must match your market — a 230 V-only label kills sales in 120/240 V dual markets.
- 5. Housing colour: standard colours run at 100 pcs MOQ; custom colours need 500+ pcs plus 15–30 days for the plastic batches.
- 6. Manual language: we supply EN/DE/FR/ES/ZH as standard; other languages need source files from you.
- 7. Firmware platform: decide between the standard Tuya/Smart Life app (fast, free for users) and an OEM app with your logo (adds app-store approval time of 1–2 weeks and a minimum order of 500 pcs for the custom firmware flash).
Packaging and logistics
- 8. Retail box design: supply dieline-based artwork; confirm barcodes, country-of-origin marking and any market-specific warnings.
- 9. Carton marks: model, quantity, gross weight and your PO number on each master carton avoids customs headaches.
- 10. Incoterms and HS codes: agree FOB Ningbo/Shanghai, CIF or DDP in writing, and confirm the HS code classification for your import duty — smart breakers and smart switches classify differently.
After-sales
- 11. Warranty term: we standardise on 24 months; agree the failure-rate threshold (we work to <0.5% annual) and the spare-parts buffer — 1% of order quantity covers most first-year service events.
- 12. Technical support channel: name one engineer on each side; OEM partners get a direct WeChat/WhatsApp line to our firmware team for app and OTA issues.
None of these points is difficult, but all twelve must be settled before production, not after. We send this checklist as part of every OEM quotation. Send us your brand concept and target market and we will return a complete OEM proposal — pricing, timeline and sample plan — within 24 hours.
